Minecraft is a game where the player can explore and build worlds with cubes in a 3D environment. The world is made up of blocks mined from the earth, so players need to stay hydrated or die.

How To Swim In Minecraft?

Swimming in Minecraft is one of the best experiences next to dying. If you haven’t tried it out yet, use these 5 methods and get your Minecraft up to speed!

To many Minecrafters, swimming can be a chore they do not want to try or bother. They are quick to say, “B-b-but what’s the point!?” But for those who have tried it, they know how exciting it can be to take a deep dive into the water or fly up high to see what you can find hidden in the clouds! And even more importantly, swimming will help your Minecraft skills enormously.

In its simplest form, Swimming is nothing more than jumping in the water and hoping you surface before suffocating. But with some basic Minecraft knowledge under your belt, I’m sure you are ready to take it to the next level.

Methods For How To Swim In Minecraft

Here are 5 different methods for you to swim in minecraft successfully.

Method 1: The Water Ladder

I’m sure you’ve seen these before; they are simply stairs made out of water.
This method is great for beginners because it’s easy to make but still pretty effective. The only downside is that if you fall off to the side or backwards, you will be stuck in limbo until someone helps pull you back up.
You will need:

  • At least three water source blocks (one at the bottom, one in the middle, and one near the top).
  • Dig a 3×3 hole in the ground. Leave ONE block open on either side for you to jump down into the water doesn’t have to be right next to it, but make sure it is easily accessible.
  • Fill in the top two spaces with water source blocks.
  • Create steps out of any other block to your desired height (the picture uses sandstone). Then turn around and build more steps down to the water’s surface (sandstone again, if possible). Make sure you at least have space to jump down!
  • Make sure you have enough room to swim up AND down, so try it out before moving on.
  • Make sure you are not stuck in any leftover blocks or grass patches at the surface of the water; if you are, Minecraft may freeze/crash when you return to land. If you can’t get out, quit your game and hit “Reset Game.”

Method 2: The Ladder/Pillar

This is the simplest type of swimming available. It doesn’t require deep diving skills, but it will help you learn some. You won’t drown if you jump off the edge of the water at any height, so this technique makes great use of your deep diving and flying skills.
You will need:

  • A ladder, up to the water’s surface (I prefer ladders made with birch wood planks).
  • Make a ladder that extends into the water as far as you like. Make sure it is anchored into anything but air (for example, you could put the bottom on top of a rock or in between two dirt blocks, but you can’t make it float).
  • If you feel daring, drop down to the top of the water and swim around for a while before continuing! Just be careful not to drown. You can also see if there’s any treasure beneath you that you may want to take later.
  • Make sure your ladder is firmly anchored into something on land (Dirt/Grass); otherwise, it will fall when you get on it.

Method 3: The Air Bubble

This method takes some practice, so don’t give up if you don’t succeed at first.
You will need:

  • At least two water source blocks.
  • Make a 2×2 hole in the ground.
  • Fill the bottom with water blocks. Make sure you have enough room to jump.
  • Create air bubbles using water source blocks on top of any solid block that is NOT at the surface level (for example, dirt, gravel, or grass). You can also use glow stone/glass if it tops out closer to your desired height.
  • When you are ready to swim back up, jump onto your platform and break through the bubble(s)! Then once you are safely at the surface again, go ahead and break through the next one.
  • If you accidentally suffocate yourself after breaking through but before reaching safety, don’t worry about it too much. Just quit your game and hit “Reset Game.”

Method 4: The Upward Bubble

This is by far the most difficult of all swim methods, but it looks very cool when you get it right.
You will need:

  • At least two water source blocks.
  • Fill the bottom block with a water source, making sure it goes high enough for you to jump up.
  • Fill the top block with air (or you can use glow stone/glass) and build a platform around it, just like in Method 3, leaving room to break through when ready.
  • Jump into the water and swim down until you reach your desired depth.
  • Break through the top block and swim back towards the surface; make sure you hit it at a good rate of speed! Then go ahead and break through the next one if you want to be extra safe.
  • If you accidentally suffocate yourself after breaking through but before reaching the surface again, don’t worry about it. Just quit your game and hit “Reset Game.”

Method 5: Jump Right In

  • All you have to do now is walk into the water and start swimming.
  • If your chest is getting wet from being near water, move them out of the way or remove objects that may be there. You may also use a bucket, water buckets, or milk buckets to make how to swim in minecraft game.
  • For how to swim in Minecraft with a bucket, you’ll need at least three sands and one piece of string.
  • If your chests get wet from being too close to the water, consider including a bucket stand.
